Majestic Rajasthan Spiritual Varanasi
Our journey begins in Delhi, the Capital City of India with its Mughal monuments and Imperial City built by the British. Delhi is a heady experience of old and new and we enjoy its architectural masterpieces, unbeatable shopping and boundless and vivid energy. We depart Delhi to visit the greatest monument to love; the Taj Mahal in Agra where one cannot help but be awestruck by this most fascinating and beautiful edifice. Our journey continues through the breathtaking majestic landscape of Rajasthan with its stunning palaces and forts and important cities of Jaipur, Jodphur and Udaipur. Rajasthan delivers the quintessential Indian experience with its vivid colours, swirling crowds, spectacular deserts, tranquil lakes and rich cuisine. We visit the remote town of Nimaj where we enjoy Rajasthani hospitality with a luxury camping experience overlooking a beautiful lake teeming with birdlife and spend a couple of nights at Rawla Narlai, a quaint former hunting lodge set in a rustic village.
Our last destination before returning to Delhi is Varanasi, which is often the place in India that has the most profound effect on visitors.
Often referred to as Benares, Varanasi is the oldest living city in the world. Mark Twain’s comments about Varanasi are fitting: Benaras is older than history, older than tradition, older even than legend and looks twice as old as all of them put together”. Hindus believe that one who is graced to die on the land of Varanasi will attain salvation and freedom from the cycle of birth and re-birth. Varanasi is considered the most sacred place for all Hindus and is also a pilgrimage site for Buddhists and Jains.
