CHRISTMAS IN VENICE
There is hardly a superlative that has not been used in a variety of languages for the beauty that is Venice in wintertime. Napoleon referred to Piazza San Marco, as the ‘drawing room of Europe’. Experiencing its timeless elegance is particularly wonderful during the Christmas season. We shop at the famous Rialto markets, feast on a traditional Christmas Eve dinner overlooking the Grand Canal, experience the glorious pageantry of Midnight Mass in the Basilica of San Marco, visit the enchanting Guggenheim Museum, and take in the incredible visual delights of the Accademia Museum Collection. We treat ourselves to a Vivaldi concert and indulge in Christmas Lunch. We treat ourselves to a Vivaldi concert performed in original costumes in the very cathedral where Vivialdi was choirmaster, and indulge in Christmas Lunch in one of the city’s finest restaurants. We visit Murano to see its glass blowers and Burano for its lace making, tour the historic Jewish ‘Ghetto’, and join in the revelry at a distinguished jazz bar. For those visiting for the very first time, there is no better introduction than walking along its mist covered bridges and window shopping in its narrow streets, through its labyrinth of styles, to take in all of this city’s celebrity splendour.
