In 2011 we designed and ran a 14-day private wine tour of Italy for a group of nine members of a wine club from Western Australia. The group gathered in Rome before venturing into the countryside with their private guide/sommelier and driver. Spending evenings in delightful boutique hotels in pretty medieval towns including Orvieto, Montalcino and Castellina in Chianti, the group enjoyed guided winery tours, private tastings and lunches along the way. In Florence their guide led them on a stunning walking tour of the city, followed by free time for shopping.  In the pretty lakeside town of Desenzano the famous Soave was tasted at Pieropan Winery and just outside of Alba the group stayed on the Marcarini Family Estate before concluding in Milan.

This group was keen to have flexibility with meals.  They took breakfast at their hotels daily, most often a lunch at a winery and for the evenings we furnished them with recommendations of our favourite osterias, restaurants and trattorias.

“A great trip, relaxing with sufficient flexibility. Tour guide/sommelier and bus drivers did a marvellous job and the accommodation and wineries visited met every expectation and more.”

Please note: The best time for wine touring in Italy is June, July and September.
