Led by Jennifer Wilkinson, the group comes together in India’s capital, Delhi before travelling to Amritsar, home of the famous Golden Temple and the most holy place of the Sikh religion.

From Amritsar we journey through the foothills of the Himalaya, with the greater Himalayan range, often referred to as the “roof of the world”, towering above us. We explore the hill station of Shimla to discover the remnants of the British Raj, now blended with local traditions and way of life. We delight in the luxury of Wildflower Hall, the former estate of Lord Kitchener and now a charming Oberoi hotel in the mountains outside Shimla.

We continue on to Kolkata, a city steeped in colonial history and architecture but with a vibrant and captivating cultural and culinary core. It exudes charm and character with its decaying mansions, abundant street food and lively markets. It was home to many freedom fighters and intellectuals during India’s battle for Independence and this strong and proud character continues today in its people.

Our final destination is the magnificent Himalayan hilltown of Darjeeling and the beautiful Glenburn Tea Estate. This offers us the perfect mix of stunning mountain vistas, remote and luxurious accommodation and an entirely unique and distinctive cultural experience.

  • This trip was all that I had hoped for. The attention to detail and the organisation meant that I could relax and really enjoy all that India had to offer. The food, the colours and the culture were vibrant and fascinating and the people are welcoming. I also really enjoyed learning and understanding better the history and influences of different rulers and religions. There is so much to remember and I do so with great fondness.

  • This was my second trip to India with Epicurious. As with my trip to Kerala, this trip to Northern India was well planned and covered a variety of sights and experiences which added to the richness of the journey.
The tour operators Jennifer Wilkinson and Alok Singh were excellent in their care of us and nothing was too much trouble. I will definitely be returning to travel with Epicurious.
