Christine has long been a friend of Epicurious Travel and is one of Australia’s most celebrated chefs, a perfectionist inspired by strong flavours and a writer whose successful books have influenced the lives of professionals and keen cooks all over the world. The Tweed Valley is nestled amongst world heritage rainforests with dramatic mountain ranges, rich red volcanic soil and lush farmlands stretching toward some of Australia’s most pristine beaches. This is where Christine has recently made her new home and coastal kitchen.

On this food adventure Christine will lead us through a range of experiences from a cooking class followed by dinner in her home, visits to diverse local producers, farmers markets, distillers and her favourite restaurants.

Each trip will be for a maximum of 8 guests to ensure personal space and comfort. If you share a love for warmer climes, fresh local produce and supporting emerging small-scale producers and restaurateurs, then do join us on this sub-tropical journey.

How itUnfolds

DAY DAY 1: CABARITA BEACH & CASUARINA

On arrival at either Gold Coast Airport in Coolangatta or Ballina Airport make your way to Cabarita Beach, your home for the next 4 nights.

In a region of unsurpassed beauty, Cabarita is a quiet and relaxed neighbourhood perfectly positioned along the pristine and spectacular coastline of the Tweed Valley.

We meet at 3:00pm in the foyer and head out to the Beach House, Christine Manfield’s coastal kitchen and location of our afternoon cooking class and dinner, where we enjoy a welcome drink together.

DAY DAY 2: CABARITA BEACH - UKI - TWEED RIVER

This morning we depart for Uki, a 40 minute scenic drive from Cabarita. The location of this small village, on the Tweed River at the foothills of the Wollumbin Mt Warning crater, is of particular significance to Bundjalung Yugembeh people. Following a Welcome to Country and Smoking Ceremony with local women Arabella and Rachel we will hear a selection of creation stories about the seasons, language and local wildlife as shared by our hosts.

Afterwards, we spend some time exploring the village and enjoying breakfast before continuing on to Tumbulgum, where we embark on a private boat tour of the Tweed River.

We return to our accommodation for a relaxing afternoon and perhaps an opportunity for some retail therapy.

This evening we are treated to a private dinner at one of Christine's favourite restaurants.

DAY DAY 3: CABARITA BEACH – MURWILLUMBAH - WOLLUMBIN NATIONAL PARK

This morning we head to the Tweed Coast Gallery and Margaret Olley Centre in Murwillumbah. A painter for over 70 years and mentor to many, Margaret Olley is one of Australia’s most celebrated painters.

Next stop is lunch at Mavis’s kitchen, a delightful rural restaurant followed by a short walk this afternoon along the easy Lyrebird Track at Wollumbin National Park.

Dinner is your choice tonight.

DAY DAY 4: CABARITA BEACH - MULLUMBIMBY - BYRON BAY HINTERLAND

Today's highlights include visits to the iconic Mullum Farmers Market, a fabulous bakery and a private tasting at a leading distillery.

Our tour concludes with a final dinner together at another one of the region's finest restaurants.

DAY DAY 5: CABARITA BEACH DEPARTURE

It is time to check out of our lovely accommodation for breakfast and our final morning together. The tour concludes with a transfer to either Coolangatta or Ballina airport for onward departures.
