This sensational journey explores the vibrant and world renowned culinary scene of the Basque culture, the beautiful and diverse regional landscapes, charming towns and cities and iconic architecture.

Synonymous with a vibrant culinary scene, striking architectural landmarks and centuries of wine-making history, the Basque Country of northern Spain beckons. This enchanting region, with its own unique language which predates Latin, offers beautiful and diverse rural landscapes, charming medieval villages and an incredible array of sensational local produce to discover. We stay in stunning accommodation in each location, dine in some of the finest Michelin star restaurants as well as the simple and traditional Basque cafes and explore the small villages and coastal communities to dig deeper into the cultural and culinary treasures of this magnificent region.

Our journey begins in eclectic Bilbao, where Frank Gehry’s iconic Guggenheim sits comfortably alongside a medieval Old Town. We spend time exploring before travelling south into La Rioja Alavesa, a regional province renowned around the world for its fabulous wine. We base ourselves in Samaniego, an expansive vineyard-covered valley and the perfect location to visit one of our favourite Spanish cities, Laguardia, with its abundance of stunning Medieval, Renaissance, Baroque and Neoclassical buildings.

From La Rioja we slowly head north east to the coast through picturesque valleys to the ‘painted city’ of Vitoria-Gasteiz, where we stroll the charming Plaza and visit the impressive gothic cathedral, before reaching Hondarribia, a colourful fishing village perched right on the border with France. The second half of the tour is spent exploring the dramatic Vizcaya coast, with its many stunning walks, pretty hamlets and lush countryside.

Widely considered one of the best places to eat in the world, spectacular San Sebastian is a worthy highlight and where our tour concludes. We enjoy some fabulous meals as well as a cooking class and lunch in one of the famous private Gastronomic Societies.

Led by our local guide from San Sebastian and supported by our Director, Jennifer Wilkinson, this fabulous journey celebrates the rich cultural history, bucolic landscapes and outstanding cuisine of this charming region.

Following on from our hugely successful inaugural tour in 2022, we’d love you to join us in 2024.
